The Producer – Byron
Byron rely on small-lot, hands-on winemaking techniques, this has helped contribute to their success. Intensive grape sorting, native yeast fermentations, and lot separation from harvest through winemaking with more than 170 separate batches of Pinot Noir alone have helped create wines that combine the finesse of Burgundy and the power of California.

The Location
Santa Maria Valley is a natural cone shaped valley opening towards the Pacific. The altitude of the valley ranges from about 50 metres at the Santa Maria River to around 1000 metres at Tepusquet Peak. Most of this appellation’s grapes are grown on the valley floor and progress up the gentle slopes and rolling hillsides up to about 250 metres. The soils range in texture from a sandy to slightly clay, which luckily for us is perfect for growing Pinot Noir grapes, and the guys at Byron do that very well indeed.
