2 x Alberca Reserva Pinot Noir 2018 – Casablanca Valley, Chile
A parcel of Pinot Noir coming from a single block of fruit in the Casablanca Valley under a label produced for a buying group. Due to the proximity to the cooling influences of the Pacific Ocean, it is ideal for the production of quality Pinot Noir. Aged for 3 months in French oak to knock back tannins. Vibrant raspberry and red cherry fruit lifts effortlessly out of the glass. The palate is rich with raspberry and red berry fruit. The wine has a supple finish and displays classic Casablancan charm.
2 x Château Baron Bellevue, Côtes de Bourg 2014 – Bordeaux, France
Mainly Merlot, this is typically ripe and spicy with wild bramble flavours, tasty tannins and a lovely gutsy character. Aged for a minimum of 18 months in the Château cellars this wine is smooth and approachable, this is drinking very well now and should suit most palates
2 x Contesa Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2017 – Abruzzo, Italy
Exceptionally fine, richly flavoured Montepulciano from Contesa’s estate in the Pescara hills. An unusually complex style combining dark bramble and black cherry fruit with spicy oak.Vibrant aromas of ripe black fruit, with hints of dark chocolate and spicy oak. The palate is rich and generous with abundant bramble and black cherry fruit, and structured tannins are balanced by fresh acidity to give an elegant finish.
2 x Feudo Maccari Neré Nero d’Avola, Sicilia DOC 2018 – Sicily
About halfway between Avola (the town that lends its name to this grape variety) and Pachino (famed for its IGP Tomatoes) lie the south-facing vineyards of Feudo Maccari, where bush vine Nero d’Avola soaks up the near-endless Sicilian sunshine. Here is a lovely vibrant example, with a succulent and juicy prune compote character, with notes of chocolate and warm spice. Aromas of warm, ripe dark fruits with black cherry, plum and tarry, smoky notes. The palate is generous and fruity with wild cherry and damson notes combining with spicy, dried fruit characters. Ripe, chewy tannins and fresh acidity give good structure, with an attractive bitter twist on the finish hinting at liquorice and burnt treacle. An impressive example of Nero d’Avola, combining approachability with real interest, depth and complexity.
2 x Cher et Tendre, Vouvray 2019 – Loire Valley, France
A delicious, relatively rare and ‘precious’ style of Vouvray. Classic, concentrated Chenin fruit with lovely aromatics and earthy apple notes, a finely textured palate and a long, sweet citrus finish. Just off-dry and beautifully balanced. A streak of minerality which runs through the finish matches the wine seamlessly to creamy chicken dishes, gently spicy Asian cuisines or a crisp mixed salad.
2 x Cave de Turckheim Pinot Blanc [Organic] 2018 – Alsace, France
Cave de Turckheim has been a pioneer of organic viticulture in Alsace, actively supporting a number of their growers decision to convert in 2008. These winegrowers have revived ancestral practices, tilling the soil and undertaking work that facilitates the elimination of weeds and helps to combat disease. Natural fertilisers are also used (nettle, horsetail, comfrey and dandelion), fortifying the vines and increasing their natural resistance. Organic winegrowers meticulously observe their vines, enabling them to intervene in the right place and at the right time, rather than treating the plants systematically. With the first vineyards achieving organic certification in 2011, Cave de Turckheim now has 35ha of certified vineyards and combined with those of their sister winery Cave du Roi Dagobert, means they have the largest organic vineyard holdings in Alsace. Delicately fresh and fruity nose with hints of white flowers, dry, well-balanced with good weight on the palate, crisp and supple.
