The Mixed Thing – a blend indeed!
The Magpie Estate began in 1993, the brainchild of two men, famous winemaker Rolf Binder and British wine merchant Noel Young. Both had a passion for the Rhone valley and it’s grapes. The fruit for this beauty comes from the the premium sites of the Northern Barossa leaning heavily on Rolf’s insight and years of knowledge of the area. Noel then sneaks out into the night in a rubber catsuit and steals all the best fruit from these growers. Their labels celebrate a superstitious theme, a nod and a wink towards the Magpie, that most enigmatic of birds, and we are cock a hoop to have them on our list.
The Winery
Sourced from 30 year vines at the Nuriootpa viticulture nursery in the Barossa Valley, South Australia. This wine is a blend of many different varieties from the Nuriootpa nursery including Cinsault, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese which is then blended with Grenache from the Binder estate.
What does it go with?
Since it tastes like summer pudding… have it with that! Dress it up or dress it down, even try it a little chilled, just buy some and drink it! It may be called “The Mixed Thing” but it is a truly beautiful thing…
